The success of a skin treatment is largely contingent on what you do after you leave the spa. Of course, aligning yourself with a knowledgeable and qualified Skin Therapist who delivers a safe and effective treatment should be your first priority. But what you do at home can impact the cumulative benefits of your treatment.

Assuming you and your Skin Therapist decide that a series of Pro Power Peels is what your skin needs, peels are a great option because they are quick, affordable and there is no recovery time. I personally love to do these treatments in the fall and spring given the reduced light levels and transitioning temperatures.

Peels are essentially a chemical exfoliant containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and / or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) with a slightly lower pH to ensure that the product absorbs.  The prickling and tingling sensation is telling you that the products are penetrating into the skin accelerating cell turnover by dissolving the bonding proteins that hold onto the dead skin cells.  Once the dead skin cells are sloughed away, fresh new cells are generated leaving you with glowing, radiant, smoother skin.

Nothing feels better than leaving your appointment with these immediate benefits.  But remember a properly executed peel treatment and homecare combination will ensure that your desired results are achieved.

Let’s avoid hit or miss homecare!  Adopt the “LESS is MORE” technique.

Less Product, Less Friction, Less Heat.

  1. Less Product: Choose products that are pH balanced and gentle for your skin. You can’t go wrong with Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Line: UltraCalming Cleanser, UltraCalming Serum Concentrate and Calm Water Gel. This line is very gentle and hydrating, a perfect choice for post care products. Drink your water to help with hydration.
  2. Less Friction: Avoid exfoliating and massaging your skin for at least three days following a Pro Power Peel. Also avoid your retinol products for a few days.
  3. Less Heat: Avoid workouts, hot showers, saunas, hot tubs and the sun for a few days. Heat can dehydrate and cause inflammation which can lead to pigmentation. Be gentle and opt for cool water to help soothe your skin. Also use a daily SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB damage. Dermalogica’s Invisible Physical Defence SPF 30 is a great option because of its new non-nano technology which allows for a silky absorption into the skin without leaving a white cast. This option is also great for people with sensitive skin.
